What’s at your desk and why? icon

A NASCAR driver’s “office” is their car. Whether they have empowering quotes to get them race-day-ready or pictures of family inside, each driver has an item that is special to them. In everyday life, what we have at our desks has some sort of meaning and significance to us. In this ice breaker, team members will share why they have these distinct items at their desks to their teammates.

Team Building Skills: Time Management, Appreciation, Communication

Hawk Eye icon

High above a race track, spotters are keeping a keen eye on their driver to help them navigate traffic. In this ice breaker, you will need to test your communication skills to see if your colleagues can identify an object by the words you choose.

Make Your Move icon

Weekly drivers are introduced to the fans at the track and they craft their own entrances. Do you have a favorite song or dance? Now is your time to create your own entrance.

Team Building Skills: Appreciation

Team icon

In NASCAR, team members identify their location in the race by using spotters and a two-way radio system. In this activity, team members will play an “I spy” game based off of a photo mural designed by the Hall. Then, team members will ask five questions to try and figure out what the individual is describing.

Team Building Skills: Appreciation, Diversity

Celebration - Track Style icon

Every track has unique food and drinks offered for every race. For example, Martinsville Speedway serves Jesse Jones Southern Style Red Hot Dogs. At Bristol Motor Speedway, they’re known for their Buffalo Chicken Mac and Cheese Poutine. In this ice breaker, individuals will create a unique drink or snack from items in their house that they’re ‘known for.’

Team Building Skills: Diversity, Collaboration

Test your knowledge icon

Every team and driver keeps up with the news and media to stay relevant, gain knowledge and to make connections. In this ice breaker, your team will get tested on social media, pop culture and NASCAR, for a fun and fast paced trivia (20 questions) activity. Earn points to gain an advantage in your Pit Stop activity.

Pit Stop Activity Options

30 to 45 Minutes Each - Choose One

Enlist your team in challenging scenarios and collaborate to solve problems in a fast and effective way.

Fast and Effective icon

Pit stops at race tracks need to be fast and effective in order to help propel the team to victory. Communicating effectively in the professional field is just as important in order to work together as a team. The Hall team will give an individual a word or phrase. Then team members will try to guess what the word or phrase is in as few of words as possible. Teams that use the fewest amount of words will win.

The sound of welding, hammers and shop talk all are signs of race cars being built. In this activity, team members will work in small groups (3-5 members) to build a race car. Teams can either receive a purchased kit from the Hall or utilize common household objects. Once teams have built their cars, they will need to race against each other for the title of “Best Race Team.”

What's the Story icon

It’s important for radio, TV, social media and news professionals to engage with fans during and after a race. Being able to paint pictures and capture/hold imagination is critical for fans. Pieces and Parts icon

Teams utilize different pieces, parts and tools to construct their race cars. Race team professionals must determine which tools make the race team operate at its best, while also providing a challenge to drivers. Each of us use our own distinct tools as part of our jobs. In this activity, you will work with a colleague to construct a “whatchamacallit.” One person will have the name of the item, while the other person must figure out how to build it without visual clues.

In the Pits icon

Race car drivers practice their skills every day to make sure their reaction times are the fastest they can be. This intense activity will test your own skills through a series of brain teasers, images, and product and brand identification to design your team’s car sponsorship package. Working in small groups, each team member must complete a task (like a relay race) before the next person can start.

Innovation Station icon

In NASCAR, there is a new rule or guideline developed almost every week, with teams having to adapt in very little time. In this activity, team members will be working together as a singular group to draw, create and imagine a solution to a problem in the form of a singular concept. Team members will create their own understanding of the concept based on their team member’s word or artistic talents. Guess right and you’ll get a point.
