Why Charlotte Won the Hall

Key factors that NASCAR officials cited in their decision:

North Carolina's central role in the sport's heritage.

More than $100 million in up-front hotel tax revenue committed to the project.

The hall's proposed center city location and nonprofit management structure (some of the other competitors proposed halls located near their speedways).

Charlotte's relative youth as a major city and fast-growing downtown.

The commitment of state and local officials that grew out of attempts to keep the annual all-star race at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

Support from superstar drivers and race teams, most of which are based in the region.

The $43 million banquet facility that can be used for induction ceremonies and other NASCAR-related events.
